Tycho Solutions designs and installs solar panel installation in Carefree, AZ, on new builds and existing homes. Modeled to your usage, not a stock package.

Carefree’s custom homes carry heavier roof assemblies than a typical Valley subdivision: concrete S-tile over batten on steep hips, with some newer builds on flat or low-slope foam roofing. Before we run a single rail we check batten spacing, tile condition, and deck fastening, since a solar array adds concentrated loads and wind uplift a brittle tile field will not tolerate.
The terrain around town pushes afternoon heat and monsoon gusts harder than flatter parts of the Valley, so flashing at every penetration has to be mechanically fastened, not just sealed. On older tile roofs we often find cracked pan tiles and degraded underlayment at the ridge before a panel goes on, and that gets corrected as part of the install, not left for the next contractor to find.
We model your actual usage and roof, then show you the production and payback before you commit to anything.
From custom home rooftops to properties on Carefree’s larger lots, we design and install solar systems built for the area’s sun exposure, HOA standards, and high-end construction.
Carefree’s custom homes often carry larger roof spans and varied rooflines. We design panel layouts that fit those angles, meet HOA aesthetic guidelines, and maximize the strong desert sun exposure the town receives most of the year.
Beyond the panels, a full install means inverter selection, wiring, and system sizing matched to each home’s actual usage. We handle city and HOA permitting, licensed electrical connection, and coordination through final inspection and utility approval.
Many Carefree homes have multi-car garages built for the property sizes common in town. We install Level 2 EV chargers wired into the home’s solar system, sized for garage layouts and positioned for everyday charging without extra trips to the panel.
Carefree sees its share of monsoon outages given the terrain around town. A battery system stores excess solar production during the day and keeps essential circuits running when the grid drops, sized to each home’s actual load.
Some Carefree properties sit on large lots at the edge of town where grid access is limited or costly to extend. For those sites we design standalone systems, panels, batteries, and inverters, sized to run a home independent of the utility.
Carefree’s commercial footprint is small, largely boutique retail and hospitality properties rather than large industrial sites. We size commercial systems to match that scale, reducing operating costs for the businesses that serve the town’s residents and visitors.

Mike returned my call for assistance within a few hours, he inspected the damage from the recent storm and sent me an estimate within hours. The work was completed the next day just ahead of more storms. He explained the entire process and was very professional. I hope I don’t need his services again anytime soon, but would not hesitate to trust the job to his team.Posted on Google![]()

Tycho Solutions recently replaced the original tile roof on our 23 year old residence. We could not be more pleased with their level of professionalism and the quality of work. Mike and Brock were great in explaining the process, the type of materials used, and what to expect. Their crew was cordial, friendly, and efficient. At the end of each day they used a magnetic device to retrieve discarded nails and fasteners, made sure all debris was inside their dumpster, and used a blower to eliminate the inevitable dust that results from replacing a roof. At the end of the project, they did a roof-top inspection of the work to make sure all details were addressed. We felt their pricing was very reasonable with top-notch customer service. We have no hesitation to refer them to friends!
Custom builders and homeowners on Carefree’s larger lots need a solar contractor who reads a tile roof or a flat foam deck correctly the first time, and who can design around the town’s architectural review rules without a mid permit redesign. We carry the electrical, structural, and permitting work under one licensed scope.
Equipment and workmanship warranties cover the array long after the desert sun and monsoon season have had their first pass at the roof.
We handle the town’s design review, utility interconnection paperwork, and inspection scheduling so you are not chasing three separate departments yourself.
Panels and inverters are matched to the heat load this roof sees all summer, not the cheapest spec that clears a permit.
Carefree’s housing stock skews toward larger custom builds on generous lots, more concrete tile and standing seam metal than the composition shingle common closer to Phoenix, plus flat or low-slope sections on newer designs. That mix changes how a system gets attached: tile needs hook flashing under the course above rather than through-roof lag bolts, standing seam takes non-penetrating clamps, and flat sections go on ballasted or standoff racking.
The failure point we see most is not the panels, it is the roof underneath them installed wrong. A rack lagged straight through tile without proper flashing weeps at every fastener within a few monsoon seasons, and foam roofing punctured for conduit without a matching patch and recoat absorbs water at the penetration long before the array shows any drop in output. We flash and seal every attachment to match the roof assembly, not a generic mount.
The town’s architectural guidelines lean conservative on visible roof and yard equipment: low glare panel finishes, conduit kept out of street sightlines, and racking that sits low to the roof plane rather than tilted up on stands. We design around those rules at the permit stage instead of installing first and hoping it passes final inspection, which matters most on corner lots and ridge sites where the array is visible from the road.

Fully licensed, bonded, and insured under Arizona ROC #364735, covering every solar install, upgrade, and electrical connection we make.
Panels and racking chosen for high heat, dust, and monsoon wind loads, not just the lowest bid on a spec sheet.
We pull permits and coordinate interconnection with the town and the utility so the system passes inspection the first time.
We schedule around monsoon season and give you a real install date up front, then hold it.
Cost depends on system size, roof type, and whether you add battery storage, so we will not throw out a number that has nothing to do with your roof. What we can tell you honestly: custom homes here often need more panel area or a higher output system to offset larger square footage, and tile or foam roofing adds labor that a simple composition shingle install does not. We size the system to your actual usage first, then give you a firm number before any work starts.
If a panel or inverter is underperforming we diagnose it first, and if it is a single failed component we replace that part rather than the whole array. Where it stops making sense is an older system that was undersized for the home from the start or has degraded wiring on the roof: patching those piecemeal means another service call next season. A solar system upgrade in Carefree, new panels, a new inverter, and battery capacity sized to how the home is used now, is the more honest fix.
Yes. A number of newer Carefree homes have flat or low-slope sections finished in foam or a single-ply membrane, and those need a different mounting approach than tile or shingle: ballasted racking or standoff mounts through a properly flashed and recoated penetration, tilted to the right angle for actual production instead of laying panels flat on the roof plane. We check the membrane condition before we mount anything, since a compromised flat roof will trap water under the array long before it shows up as a leak inside.
Yes, though Carefree’s commercial footprint is mostly small retail and hospitality buildings rather than large industrial roofs, so we size the system to match that scale. That usually means a low-slope commercial roof, a rooftop unit layout to work around, and a system sized to daytime operating hours rather than a residential usage curve. We handle the same structural and electrical scope as a home install, just against a commercial roof assembly and a commercial permit process.
Yes. We hold Arizona ROC #364735 and pull the building and electrical permits directly with the town, along with the interconnection paperwork the utility requires before a system gets turned on. Carefree also applies its own design review to anything visible from the street or a neighboring lot, so we submit panel layout and conduit routing as part of that review rather than treating it as a separate step after the roof work is already done.
Yes, and it is usually cheaper to wire for solar during framing than to retrofit a finished home. For solar for new construction in Carefree we work directly with your builder’s electrician to rough in conduit paths and panel space before drywall, so the roof never gets penetrated twice, once for the build and again for the array. If the roof is still being designed we will also flag tile or membrane choices that make future mounting easier.
